It has been awhile since we were last here at Vallejo's on 4th and S Street; usually we come here during warmer weather when their outdoor seating in the patio is open, but this is Wintertime, so of course we sat indoors. We arrived at 11am, so we had our choice of seating, but the parking was very challenging since all parking requires a meter on the street somewhere....my brother in-law dropped us off as he searched for metered street parking (which ended up a couple of blocks away, and we had to track our time carefully). The new decor, and expanded space, was a pleasant surprise. The wait staff was very pleasant and provided tortilla chips and green salsa. The menu had the typical a la carte and combination selections. I chose the shredded beef chimichanga, while my guests chose a breakfast burrito with bacon and chicken tacos. Additionally, we ordered margaritas on the rocks (not blended...I get "freeze-brain headaches from the blended variety). I found our drinks to be a bit light on the tequila side and will probably not order again. All of our selections were good, and served hot as the room filled with the lunch crowd (we suspect probably state workers who were ordered to return to work recently). By the time we left, the room was packed with diners. Will we return? Probably, but we will also ride our bikes and skip the margaritas!

A few months ago, I had weekday lunch at Vallejo's. It's a family owned and operated restaurant serving up authentic Mexican food. They are located in the corner of 4th and S Street in downtown Sacramento. The one item lunch special is $8.50, two $14.25, and three $17.50. Lunch special served all week up to 4pm. And after 4pm the only thing that changes is that the price for one item increases by $1. It comes with beans and rice. They also serve complimentary chips n green salsa. The salsa has a lot of flavor. Nice consistency. My faves are the shredded beef taco, pork tamale, chicken enchilada... who am I kidding... I think I've tried almost every menu item and haven't eaten anything I haven't liked. The tacos are served in a crispy fresh fried shell of your choice of corn or flour tortilla. The enchilada sauce is darn delicious. This location opened in 1992. But it gives off modern vibes. No trapped in time warp here. But what has stayed consistent is the delicious food, welcoming vibes, comfortable atmosphere, and attentive customer service. Another thing to note is the parking is metered street parking.

Vallejo's has added some American Breakfast items to the menu. That gives you a choice between Mexican and American. The service is excellent with a friendly staff that is attentive to the needs of some of the older patrons with a variety of ailments.

Met some friends here after work for dinner. There is a patio, but given the heat, we decided to sit indoors. When I entered, I was promptly greeted and given a choice of a booth or a table. The server gave me a minute to decide on a drink and I decided it was a margarita kind of day. As we moved on to food, I decided to go with the nachos. The plate was piled high with goodies and I added a necessary side of jalapenos. Our servers provided consistent check-ins ensuring that we were well taken care of. Check 'em out of you're in the neighborhood.

Hadn't been here in years. We walked from our hotel close by with our dog and we're allowed to bring him inside because he is a service dog. The food was delicious and the waitress was very accommodating. They have remodeled since we've been here last and it is very comfortable. He will be back.
